Two Evidence Maps: (1) Cultural and Linguistic Diversity and (2) Language and Communication of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Individuals
ASHA's Evidence Maps are a searchable online tool to assist clinicians with evidence-based decision making. The Evidence Maps consist of clinical practice guidelines and systematic reviews on a variety of clinical topics. The aim of this tool is to provide clinicians with the scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and client perspectives they need to provide high-quality services reflecting the interests, values, needs, and choices of individuals with communication disorders. The Cultural and Linguistic Diversity (CLD) Evidence Map and the Language and Communication of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Individuals Evidence Map focus on the unique screening, assessment, treatment, and service delivery needs of these populations. By providing this information, we hope to promote more effective and inclusive care and to improve outcomes.
The Evidence Maps are funded by ASHA and are developed by ASHA staff through a multi-step process. The CLD map launched in November 2019, and the DHH map was published in September 2022. Both of these maps are updated continuously to ensure that the most current evidence is available to clinicians.
